This is a fundraising pattern for my late brother, Mino (1971-2004).

“Diamonds and Pearls” is a song by Prince, whom Mino loved. My husband, John, and Mino are the same age; both were born in July 1971. They had very different personalities and occupations, but they shared the same taste in music. The only exception was Prince, whom Mino loved, but John cannot stand. Me? I love this song and the album cover.

This stole wraps you comfortably and beautifully. “Pearls” created by the yarn overs combine with a few simple stitches to appear as “Diamonds.” You may customize the size and knit with any weight of yarn in a single color or multiple colors, like I did with my samples.

Charts are provided with no written instruction, but are simple enough for lace/chart beginners.

Skills required: k, p, k2tog, p2tog, ktbl, ssk, yo, sl2tog-k1-psso

Finished size (blocked):
Original: 76” length x 17” width (193cm x 43cm)
Wide version: 51” length x 21” width (130cm x 53cm)

The size is easy to customize by adjusting the number of repeats.

All the proceeds of this pattern will be donated to the Minoru Hokari Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Australian National University. My late brother, Minoru Hokari (“Mino” 1971-2004) died of cancer at the age of 32. The scholarship fund supports young scholars who study Indigenous Australians through fieldwork. We are trying to fully fund it to achieve its perpetuity. Please help.

Please visit Being Connected with HOKARI MINORU to meet Mino.
