The original version of this scarf was designed as a present for the YA book editor Sharyn November (who can be found at www.sharyn.org). Upon receiving her gift, she decided it needed a name and dubbed it Dog Star Filigree.

As written, this pattern produces a wide scarf of the dimensions noted below. However, it’s knit on the bias, so if you’re annoyed with trying to loosely cast on or cast off the ends of lacy, rectangular scarves and stoles, the three stitch cast on and bind off make this the perfect pattern for you!

The pattern can be customized to suit a wide variety of gauges and yarns, and the pattern contains some general guidelines for customizing the pattern to the yarn and dimensions of your choice. You can check out some of the finished objects my lovely test-knitters produced if you want to see examples in other yarn weights and other scarf dimensions.

If you wish to make a lacy scarf or stole from this pattern, you will want to choose a fiber that blocks well. You can take a look at this article on Knitty about blocking different fibers to get an idea of what you want to use.

This pattern is charted, with written instructions for working from the chart and a set of detailed guidelines for customization. You will also have access to a larger version of the charts with purchase.
