In the hot dry playa of Black Rock Desert, dust devils can always be seen on the horizon. Formed when hot air near the ground breaks suddenly through an overlying layer of cooler air, they spiral up dragging dust and debris with them into the blue sky. Dust devils dance across the desert, sometimes two or three together, proclaiming the undeniable fact that the playa is a very dry desert. This piece was created as an Artist-in-Residence at Black Rock Desert National Conservation Area.
