My friend Andrea’s nephew wanted a panda hat with earflaps. He is 17 and I figure if he is confident enough to wear one, the least I could do was make one!

The pattern as written is roughly 22-inches in circumference, but I included notes on making it smaller and larger. Also, when I made the hat, I used crochet for earflap edging and the panda’s ears. I include knitted alternatives for the non-crocheter.

The chart for the face is also provided. I did mine in duplicate stitch, but for the intarsia lover, the chart should work for that as well.

The hat starts from the I-cord ties that increase into the earflap. After making the second earflap, stitches are cast on between and the hat is knitted in the round to the top.
