Easy Crochet Hat for Beginners
This easy, crochet hat pattern from Lily B’s has been created with the beginner crocheter in mind.
I’ve limited the stitches to double crochet so that even those that are only starting on their crocheting journey will be able to master this simple beanie.
I’ve included 7 sizes, from beginner to adult. The hat is created using worsted weight yarn and a 5mm crochet hook (US8 / H). Yardage is included in the pattern.
You will begin with a magic circle and work the hat, top down, ending with the front post double crochet brim. You can add a yarn pom pom or a faux fur pom pom for something extra, or wear it simple, as it is.
The hats you see, for the most part, were worked up with easily accessible acrylic yarn from the craft store (Yarnspirations Bernat Premium). I want you to be able to get started on this project quickly.
note: I choose to use acrylic yarn because the hats can be tossed in the washer and dryer for easy, fuss free clean up and they just get softer and softer with each wash.
But, you can work yours up in a natural fiber, of course, if that’s what you prefer (see the image where I’m wearing a hat, and the one where I’m holding two hats side by side for comparison: one is Bernat acrylic, the other is Drops Air, a natural fiber). Just as long as your yarn meets the gauge, you’re good to go.
