This cushion cover is created using Interlocking /Double filet crochet and contains written instructions and an ELCG Chart, please see one of our free patterns before purchasing as no refunds will be given.

This 22 by 22 double filet/interlocking square was inspired by the artifacts found in the archaeological sites of the Viking settlement Birka on the island of Björkö in the Lake of Mälar which is in Sweden. I was specifically inspired by the many fragments of tablet woven braids that were discovered.
To add an extra dimension to this design we have included colour change in the background colour.

Please, before attempting this square take the time to read the free colour changing pattern (https://ravel.me/simple-colour-change-squares) which contains an easy to follow guide on how to read these instructions.

The sample is created in DK yarn but any weight yarn can be used but it will alter the size of your finished project. You will need three colours, make sure that the outline colour is a high contrast to the other two colours to make the pattern pop.

ComplexKate’s samples are based on the original pattern but worked in triple filet, check out her original notes for more information.
