If you like working with color but find the more traditional patterns a little involved, you’ll adore this cowl. Designed with a minimal aesthetic and finished to be fully reversible (neatly hiding all the messy stranded bits!), it will hug your neck in a lofty cocoon of irresistible softness.
encadré \ an-ka-dré \ (french): box, framed.
You’ll need 645 yards of color A and 200 yards of color B
26 stitches and 40 rounds over 4”/10cm square in circular stockinette stitch, blocked
24” circular needle
3.25 mm (US size 3) or size needed to obtain gauge
Important: When working the colorwork section, be sure to use a very relaxed tension with color B. Pulling the strands at the back of the work too tight will cause the stitches to buckle and the cowl will become narrower in width than the other half.
If you find it difficult to match your colorwork gauge when working the solid Color A rounds, try changing to a needle 1-2 sizes smaller than your gauge needle.
