Euphorbia milii (crown of thorns) is a species of flowering plant in the spurge family Euphorbiaciae, native to Madagascar. The species name commemorates Baron Milius, once Governor of Réunion, who introduced the species to France in 1821.

The lace pattern used for this sock resembles the “Crown of Thorns” plant with its spikey stems topped with a spay of leaves and simple red flowers. This sock is constructed toe-up and has a full gusset with a lacework faux flap and reinforced heel.

Sizes are Small (Medium, Large) to fit an adult woman’s ball of foot measurement of 8.0, 9.0, and 10.0 inches 20 (23, 25) cm. The lace pattern gives this sock generous stretch, so if in-between sizes, you may want to make the smaller of the two.

Pattern includes options for tapered or rounded toe, generic or calculated foot length, patterned or ribbed heel flap, and Russian or Picot bind-off.

Pictured sock is size medium and was knit with 1 skein of The Cyborg’s Craft Room Assockilate, light fingering weight yarn 463 yd (423 m)/100 g, in color Bienvenue au Cirque.

Difficulty is Advanced intermediate. Pattern assumes experience with lace knitting, toe-up sock construction, and chart reading. References for picture or video tutorials are provided for most techniques. Stitch pattern is provided only as chart.
