UPDATE (2020, March 18th):

This Covid-19 outbreak resulted in anxieties and concerns in the heart of so many people including knitters.

I want to make a disclaimer about this little pattern. About the purpose of why I made it. I don’t feel good that this pattern became misunderstood.

Please understand that this is NOT a mask for medical purposes.

I release this pattern back in 2017 as a gift for my husband. The background of it was from my personal need. We ride a motorcycle on a daily basis. I always need a mask to cover me from road dust and heat on the roads (also seek warm from the night wind). Sometimes I also want to cover my face when I have to go to public spaces (like a mall or social events). And since I am not sick, I feel that using a disposable surgical mask kind of a waste (because it only can be used once). I also have a tendency to always touch my nose, so this mask really a big help for me to prevent me touch my own face. I frequently wash my knitted mask with my other clothes in the washing machine too to keep it always clean and fresh.

So, this mask is more to cover your face from dust, sun, cold weather or to cover your face without any particular medical reason. Like a knitting scarf, balaclava, or cowl.

About corona prevention:
in where I live now, I also one of the people that not fortunate enough to get a standard mask supply. So if you are fortunate to get hold of them, please only use them when you really need them since they are rare items now. Like I read on WHO site: the most effective way to protect yourself against Covid-19 is: frequently clean your hands, cover your cough with the bend of elbow or tissue, and maintain a distance of at least 1 meter (3 feet) from people who are coughing or sneezing.

I now bring hand sanitizer everywhere (this also became a rare item in my place), and always wash my hand with water and soap after doing almost anything. I also eat vitamin and herbs to maintain my immune system. And go out when I need it not when I want it (still quite frequent cause I am not cooking and always eating out).

Please always be safe and keep your health.

This mouth mask is for advanced beginner, using only basic knitting, basic decrease, and i-cord.

This pattern is fully in written with some photo tutorial.

I made this mouth mask in one size, regular adult mask.

The samples knitted in SA Poyeng in a solid color, but feel free using any DK yarn that suited for 3.5 - 4.5 mm knitting needle.
