Revised and test knitted version of this pattern is published april 24, 2012. The cables are now placed symmetrical and the crown is improved. You can knit from charts now too.
Note: the picture still shows the a-symmetrical version!

Fair Kate intends to be a close copy of the breath taking cable hat lawyer Kate Reed wears in the in TV-series Fairly Legal.
When I tried to unvend a pattern for it, I found out there had been a lot of talk about it on Ravelry. Some suggestions for look-a-like patterns came up, such as Azul and Beaumonde Inspired Hat. Also quite a few knitters/designers wrote down a pattern for it, like Voleur and Fairly Slouchy. All great hats, but not the ideal matches for me. Different cables, too bulky yarn, slouchy instead of beanie…
Fair Kate is the version I came up with myself. I hope you like it. With thanks to all Ravelers who helped with suggestions, tips, advice and test knitting!

Some knitters have suggested to CO 168 instead of 144 sts for a bit more slouch. The pattern now tells you to cast on 144 sts for the brim and to increase to 168 for the body of the hat.
