This is a pattern for a knit scarf that features two distinct stitches that come to us from Japan. Both are interesting and fun to knit. One is a lace leaf stitch and the other is a distinct bobble. (This bobble is made using the crochet hook method of creating bobbles.) Together, the two stitches make a unique and fun scarf. The stitches, although they are Japanese, are easily learned by Western knitters, especially those who love unique stitches. All symbols have been “translated” to the ones that most Western knitters are used to seeing.

The pattern also contains instructions for an optional crocheted edging.

All stitches are both charted and written out.

Skill Level: Intermediate (assuming a good working knowledge of lace knitting.)
Skill Level for the optional crocheted edging: Intermediate (assuming a working knowledge of crocheting)

The shawl shown in the sample was knit using Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sport yarn, in colorway, Sage.

The sample was expertly tested by Anjali Datta, who can be reached at: adatta@utexas.edu
