Feather Lace Cowl KNIT-A-LONG
Feather Lace Cowl is worked in the round, in Ostrich Plumes stitch, which is easier to knit than it looks - you only work the lace pattern every 4th round, the remaining rounds being plain stockinette st ones.
The instructions are written for aran/ worsted weight yarn, but they can be easily modified for different weight yarns, from very light to chunky - there is more information on how to do it in the last section of the pattern.
Skill level
Working in the round, provisional CO and working a lace pattern. Crochet provisional CO tutorial is available here.
One Size
Circumference: 99 cm/ 39 in
Height: approx 25.5 cm / 10 in
(You can easily change both the circumference and the height by working a different number of repeats and rounds.)
Yarn
300 metres/ 330 yards of aran/ worsted/ 10 ply smooth wool with good stitch definition that blocks well.
Gauge
1 pattern repeat (16 sts x 32 rows) in Ostrich Plumes st, with main needle and after blocking = 11 cm (width) x approx 15 cm (height).
You will also need
6 mm circular needle 80 cm long (or size to obtain gauge)
circular needle one size smaller than main needle, for edging,
st marker,
scrap yarn for provisional CO,
crochet hook for provisional CO, size similar to main needle.
NOTE: The cowl must be blocked well.
