Filature is a lace shawl, knit in one piece from the center-top outward. With both charts and written instructions, knitters will be able to choose their most comfortable way to follow the pattern. It can be easily customized by changing the number of repeats of charts 2 and/or 3 as it is knit.

It was designed to show off handspun yarn but will be perfect with any worsted weight yarn that you would like to use. It also looks wonderful in both semi-solids and variegates.

Kim and Sharon from the Spin a Shawl group asked me to design a shawl for their Designer series S-KAL. I really love how awesome handspun looks knit up and I wanted to let the yarn shine so I went with a simple rib and lace pattern to showcase the pretty yarn. I hope that the group has fun spinning and knitting this shawl together!!

Yarn
Approximately 450-500 yards of worsted/heavy worsted weight yarn – Testers used anywhere from 306 to 509 yards, depending on gauge.

Needle
1 US size 8 (5.0 mm), 24-inch circular or length preferred for weight of yarn

Notions
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Stitch markers for marking center stitch and/or edgings

Gauge
17.5 sts/29 rows = 4 inches in stockinette on US size 8 needles

Exact gauge is not important but do note that a looser gauge will result in the use of more yardage
