Remember your first love? Your queasy stomach, that heart-pounding excitement, those first fumbling attempts to make magic together - not really sure what you were doing but loving every minute of it! You didn’t know how it would turn out in the end, but one thing was sure; you were changed forever by the experience and wouldn’t have missed it for the world.

I’m not really sure why we drifted apart, my first love and I. Maybe I felt fettered by the chains (or had one too many rounds of double crochets late one night), but long ago I abandoned my first love, Crocheting, for a new love I had found: Knitting.

I am always stimulated by my Knitting, but seldom satisfied. Far from it. Our relationship is still fraught with misunderstandings, late-night frays, and tearful tangles. (And I know those misunderstandings are always my fault!) But despite our rocky romance I will always love Knitting, probably because I know I will never truly understand it or fully master it. It is the Master, and I the enraptured thrall.

However… sometimes late at night I slip away, to seek out my first love once again. It is always there waiting for me, hooks in my drawer, no questions, no misunderstandings; just unconditional love. We spend a few hours alone together away from prying eyes, and try once more to find the magic. Here is the love child of one such midnight tryst: “First Love“ Shawlette.
