Flint Mittens are a worsted weight mitten knit in 100% wool. The simple colourwork pattern and somewhat heavy yarn used results in a fairly quick knit. The pattern includes clear charts, and the written instructions, although not given row by row, will help clarify the pattern. This pattern uses some intermediate techniques, like two stranded colourwork, knitting in the round and a stretchy cast on. I believe a mitten is great place to practice these, or even learn them.

Sizing and Measurements
Women’s Small-Medium:
two colours of Knit Picks Wool of the Andes (100 metres in 50 grams) at gauge of 22 stitches and 23 rows per 10 centimetres/4 inches. Total yardage needed: 88 yards of each colour. Finished measurements: Total Length 27 cm/10.5 inches, Circumference (excluding thumb) 20 cm/8 inches.

Adjust the gauge and yarn to make a Women’s Medium-Large:
two colours of Custom Woolen Mills Mule Spinner 2 Ply (198 m in 112 g) at a gauge of 21 st and 22 rows per 10 cm. Total yardage needed: 88 meters of each colour. Total Length 28 cm/11 inches, Circumference (excluding thumb) 21 cm/8.5 inches.

Needles and Notions
Use 100 cm circular (for magic loop) or double pointed needles in the size needed to get gauge. 4 mm might be a good place to start.
Other materials: stitch markers, scrap yarn, tapestry needle.
