In the book Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows and the movie adaptation, The Forest of Dean is frost covered forest where Hermione and Harry take refuge from Death Eaters while looking for horcruxes. Their friend Ron, who previously abandoned them, is summoned to the forest bringing the trio of friends back together in their quest to conquer Lord Voldemort. This intermediate level wrap has three sections, with a different pattern representing each character’s time in the forest.

See detailed wrap description following materials and gauge below. Different sections of the wrap may follow written or charted instructions.

Materials:
Three skeins of fingering yarn, 460-490 yds/skein, in three different colors. If less yardage is used the pattern sections may need to be shortened.

Tip: The yarn used for the sample wrap (Fiber Me This Dean Kit: 3 skeins) is a light fingering 100g/490yds and approximately 90% of each skein was used (1323 total yards was used). A regular fingering weight yarn with 460 yards should also work but a size 4 needle would be recommended.

32 inch, circular needles size US 4 (3.5mm) or 5 (3.75mm) – SEE GAUGE INFORMATION

11 Stitch Markers

Gauge: You’ll want to do a quick stockinette swatch or two looking to get 11 - 12 stitches per two inches, measured horizontally, unblocked. The designer is a very tight knitter and used a size 5 needle for this project, however, the wrap is large so the average to loose knitter will likely need to use a size 4 needle to not exceed the indicated finished dimensions on page 8.

Section I: Hermione – Everything Has Changed
While in the forest Hermione reflects on how in appearance the forest is just as she remembered it when she was young child, but then acknowledges how “everything has changed” and shares her thoughts about this with Harry. Hermione’s thoughts are represented in branching twigs of lace which climb left and right up to the second section. The wrap starts at a point and has an increasing right edge that angles out then becomes parallel to the left side.

Section II: Harry – Accio Sword
While taking watch in the forest, Harry is drawn to a lake by glowing doe (Snape’s Patronus). He can see The Sword of Gryffindor at the bottom of the lake and calls out the spell “Accio Sword” to retrieve it but the sword doesn’t move. Harry decides to submerge himself in the icy waters to obtain the sword. This section of the wrap uses knits and purls in pattern on both the right and wrong side to establish a sword like motif.

Section III: Ron – Straight Through Me
Ron arrives at the Forest of Dean just in time to rescue Harry from the Lake and then using The Sword of Gryffindor destroys a horcrux. When Ron and Harry return to camp, Ron explains to Hermione where he has been, what he has been doing and, most importantly, how a little ball of light with Hermione’s voice in it came to his chest and went “straight though me” leading him back to his friends in the Forest of Dean. This section of the wrap has lace diamonds representing the long, intense journey Ron & Hermione have experienced over the years turning now into a love that will propel them into the future. This section will mirror that of the Hermione section eventually decreasing on an angle to a point.
