Frederica (Quatrefoil)
Note: The basic pattern as written (without customization) will comfortably accommodate most wearers. However, it can easily be lengthened (if desired) by adding more rows.
FREDERICA is a great pick-up-and-go project!
Its symmetrically pleasing net-like appearance was inspired by overlapping shapes popular in Gothic and Renaissance-era building architecture, often with a four-lobed (“quatrefoil”) motif providing both strong support and lovely decoration.
This is a quick knit with a brief and easily mastered row repeat, despite a complex surface appearance. Row-by-row narrative instructions are provided.
Much individual creativity, too, comes in the variety of embellishments that may be added to this project, from …
- the new gold- and silver-toned scarf pendant with four ornately abutting circles (purchased for a nominal fee from a local store operated by the well-known American multi-national corporation that is the world’s largest retailer) … to …
- a vintage filigree shoe clip
- an antique hollow scrollwork brass heart
- a bronze leaf of unknown provenance
- etc.
An additional column of faggoting worked at one side of the scarf even allows for the insertion of an optional strand/string of 4mm gold-tone beads (at any craft supply store).
