Fundamentally Faroese Shawl #2
Like it’s older sister, Fundamentally Faroese Shawl #1, Fundamentally Faroese #2 is designed to walk you through the unique construction of a Faroese shawl, an amazing work of knitted engineering with a logic to the construction that is best knit to be learned. With all the traditional shaping and a basic and traditional lace pattern, a Fundamentally Faroese Shawl will give you the tools and experience you need to enjoy these shawls.
In Fundamentally Faroese #2, the lace pattern is mitered on each side of the gusset and the lace pattern reverses to form a mirror image. The miter gives FF#2 a traditional angular shape and makes it a bit shorter than FF#1. An alternative but still tradtional method of finishing for the border/gusset is used. The solid gusset shows off a hand-dyed yarn or it could easily be embellished with needle felting, buttons or applied Icord. Perhaps add some stitches to the gusset and have a cable up the back. Lots of possibilities!
