The Gherkin is a rather odd London building that isn’t actually near where I used to work in Southwark – it’s on the other side of the Thames in the Financial District. But it is very visible from many points in the city, including London Bridge. I’ve been fascinated by the twisting, swirling lines of the building ever since we moved here. Here are a quick-knitting pair of mittens that capture the feel of the Gherkin in twisted stitches and cushy, warm, bulky-weight yarn. Just the thing for a last minute gift to protect against cold winter winds!

Worked from the bottom up in aran weight or bulky yarn, the finished mittens are approximately 9.25 10, 10.75, 12 inches long.

SKILLS NEEDED
Casting on, knitting, purling, working twisted stitches, decreases, working in afterthought thumb (instructions given).
