This design was inspired by all of the cool Glorias out there. But most especially the Gloria with the most swagger, Gloria Swanson.

The band of the hat has a reversible seed stitch and rib stitch pattern. Pick whichever side you like best for the outside of your cloche or headband! You can see one side in the cloche pictures and the other in the headband picture.

The band of the hat is worked first. It is worked flat and lengthwise. Once you bind off you will seam it together to form the finished base. If you like the base by itself, then it’s a headband! If you would like a hat, you pick up stitches on one side of the band and join to work in the round for the crown.

Seaming instructions and a picture are included in the pattern. A photo tutorial of how to seam is on our blog.

The pattern is written for one size. This yarn and stitch pattern have a good amount of elasticity so this hat will fit a range of head sizes. But it is easy to adjust it to fit your head! Knit the band until it is long enough to fit around your head while you are stretching it slightly and it can overlap approximately an inch. That’s all you need to do for the headband. If you are making the hat, pick up stitches in every slipped stitch on the side of the band. On the first row after the pick up, increase or decrease stitches to get you to the number stated in the pattern.

Did you know? There are matching handwarmers!
