Gorges Cowl… ITHA-GORGES COWL
Designed for 2019’s Knit Ithaca, Laura’s hometown knitting retreat!

Here’s what you do with your small, precious, coveted skeins of yarn… you make a very special neck jegging! One with a modified Shetland Lace border of course! The lace flairs out at the shoulders and snuggles up against the neck. I used a local to me (like 10 miles from my house) Wendsleydale laceweight, that has a scrumptious hand due to the properties of this luxurious longwool fiber.

If you have less than 200 yards, which I did for the green Qiviut version you’ll just make your cowl shorter. The pattern is written so you know how much yarn you need left for the bind off!

GAUGE
17 stitches and 21 rnds = 4” (10 cm) in Stockinette stitch, blocked hard
18 stitches and 24 rows = 4” (10 cm) in Stockinette stitch, UNBLOCKED

Optional
416 Size 8 Japanese seed beads (approximately 12 grams)
Dental floss threader or large-eye beading needle
(for stringing on beads)
Keep in mind that if your precious yarn is delicate your are probably going to want to skip working with beads… I talk about this in the pattern!
