This is a simple, yet very feminine design. The lovely aran yarn makes the lacy pattern emerge beautifully. The vest can be worn with jeans, a skirt, or over a dress. It also fits perfectly under a winter anorak and will make you feel warm and cozy. As a cardigan it will go with everything. The ribbon and the black buttons contrast each other in an interesting way, but how you wish to finish your vest or cardigan is your decision.

Originally designed as a vest pattern, I added sleeves this cold winter because my house is so chilly. On each sleeve there is a center pattern repeat that mimics the front pieces. However, you may opt to knit the sleeves plain.**

Yarn: Hjertegarn Incawool (100% Highland wool) 175 yd (160m)/3.5oz (100g): #402 gray, 3 skeins (525yd/480m(5 skeins for a cardigan). Or the same amount of any other aran/worsted yarn that’ll give you the right gauge.

Needles: US 7 – 4.5mm for the ribbing and 10 – 6.0mm needles for the body, or size needed to obtain gauge, tapestry needle, eight 2cm/0.75” buttons for the vest, or five 2.5cm/1” buttons for the cardigan.

Gauge: 14 sts to 10 cm/4” on US 10-6.0mm needles over stockinette sts.

Size: to fit size 36/38 and 40/42 with approx. 2.5cm/1” of ease.

Skills: k, p, k2tog, skpo, yo, m1, buttonholes by binding off/casting on sts. This pattern also calls for the ability to follow a pattern even if every row hasn’t been written out.
