This lovely design is the perfect project for anyone looking for an easy-to-crochet batwing shawl for any season or occasion. Curved top edge shaping fits beautifully around shoulders and is worked from the neck down, growing longer and wider with each row. The simple lace repeat on the upper portion is made with only single crochet and chain stitches, and can be made in your desired length before adding the border pattern.

Size

Fits all sizes; can be made to size desired with any yarn and appropriate hook size.

Materials

Shawl may be made with any yarn and appropriate hook size. Full size shawl shown was made with about 650 yds. (about 6 1/2 102-yd. balls) Patons Silk Bamboo #85107 Sapphire (weight category 3-light worsted weight) and size G hook; small shawl/scarf shown was made with about 450 yds. (about two 231-yd. skeins) KnitPicks Essential Tweed/Stroll Tweed Plum Tweed (weight category 1-fingering weight sock yarn) and size F hook.

With most category 3 and 4 yarns (light worsted or DK weight and worsted-weight), a size G hook would be too small and would produce a stiff fabric. However, for this project I chose a size G for the silk-bamboo blend for my preference of drape and stitch definition.
