Hex Key Cowl uses unusual—but relatively straightforward—shaping to make a closely-fitted cowl that pulls on over the wearer’s head.

Because it’s close-fit, it can be worn as a headwrap/scarf/earwarmer, too. Because it’s shaped so oddly, it can be worn in a few different ways—doubled over, it looks like a triangle-kerchief-style cowl; crumpled down, you can see a little of the geometric interest. Either way, angles come together in interesting ways that show off a multicolored yarn well, or make good use of a collection of sport/DK scraps.

Materials:

• 1 skein or 55g/180yds of Noro Silk Garden Sock, or a substitute sportweight/dk yarn that knits well at the same gauge
• 1 24” circular needle in US4/3.5, or size needed for gauge
• Optional: DPNs and 16” circular in size needed for gauge
• 6 removable stitch markers or scrap yarn
• Tapestry needle.
• Optional: extra needle for a three-needle bindoff

Gauge:
Gauge is 5 sts and 8 rows in 1”/2.54cm of garter stitch. Please be sure to check your gauge. This is a fitted piece, and it needs to be able to stretch over the wearer’s head.
