This pattern will guide you through the process of making and assembling your own hibernating hedgehog in a leaf. The head and arms are made first and then you attach these pieces as you make the tummy section so the design involves as little sewing as possible.

The pattern is written in English using American crochet terms and has been independently tested.

You will need:

Yarn of your choice. Yarn weight doesn’t really matter - the size of your project will simply turn out bigger or smaller! I used a mixture of aran weight yarns (this is equivalent to light worsted weight yarn) from various brands, and my finished hedgehog measures approximately 10cm long.

You will need the following colours:

Black (approx. 1m).

Dark brown (approx. 51m).

Beige (approx. 33m).

Gold / Your choice of leaf colour (approx. 34m).

Please note = The amount of yarn used will vary according to yarn weight, hook size and stitch tension so these measurements are only a rough guide.

You will also need:

A suitable size hook for the yarn you have chosen - I used a 4mm hook.

A small amount of toy stuffing.

A small amount of finer black yarn or thread for embroidering the eyes.

Other tools you will need are some scissors, a tapestry needle, some pins and a stitch marker.
