The Honey Dome Hat creates a peek-a-boo check by two slipped stitches with two knitted stitches interspersed by ridges of purl. Using a slightly piled yarn such as the Seda Rustica used in the sample, the main color is the star, and the background color just peeks through. The garter brim gives the hat a slight cloche-like or beach hat flair. For a subtler look, knit it in one color.

The hat has a slightly cloche shape with a flatter top and just a hint of flare at the brim. As written it covers just the tops of the ears, but instructions for making a longer hat to suit one’s taste and climate are included.

In addition to the orange and blue sample shown in Seda Rustica, it was also knitted using Cascade Yarns Eco Alpaca 100% Undyed Baby Alpaca in Natural (#1510) and Pepper Twist (1527). One skein of each is sufficient to make both the hat and cowl. The hat had a final weight of 55g and the cowl had a final weight of 70 g.

This pattern is relatively simple and knits fairly quickly for someone with basic hat knitting experience.

Skills Required: knit, purl, slip stitch, k2tog and p2tog decreases
