This rider makes a good stocking-filler. It will fit the Snoo’s Knits horse pattern or a My Little Pony. For horses of other sizes, try using wool of a different weight to make the rider smaller or chunkier.

To minimise tedious sewing up at the end, we will be creating the doll in as few pieces as possible. By keeping the legs loosely-stuffed, the figure can stand, sit or ride.

Make a girl or a boy by adding or leaving out the plaits. You also have a choice of hats – the cowboy hat or the striped jockey cap.

We have separate patterns for the horse, saddle & bridle, saddle-blankets and rugs - check our other Snoo’s Knits listings.

Difficulty: Easy

Stitches used: kfb, k2tog, p2tog

You will need:

• Wool: less than 15g of each colour. I used Double Knit (8-6 ply, “light worsted”.) Tension square: 10cm x 10cm square is 24 stitches across and 32 rows.
• Knitting needles – I used UK size 12 (2.75mm, US size 2)
• Tapestry needle
• Scraps of wool to embroider the face
• Stuffing
• Three stitch-holders / safety-pins / spare needles
• Ordinary needle and thread
