I saw a very cute mod vintage mug with an elephant, a giraffe and a rhino on it and it made me think of my best friend, Gina. I thought it would also make a really cute mitten so I designed this mitten with those animals for her. The chain of baby elephants around the cuff adds to the theme.

The pattern is written for 4 colors- background and then each animal being a different color or you can knit it as show with just 2 colors.

I have a photo tutorial showing how to make the Latvian Braid detail on the cuff so you can learn a new skill as you make these.

The pattern shows how to measure your hand to find the correct size for your hand and what size needle to use for your size.

The pattern includes written instructions with a chart for the colorwork on the hands.

There is a pattern for the thumb or you can choose to knit it solid as shown in photo.

I hope you enjoy knitting the pattern as much as I did designing and knitting it!

You will need:

  • 2 skeins of sport weight yarn- around 144 yards to 50 grams.

  • 1 darning needle to weave in ends
  • 2- 12” pieces of scrap yarn to hold thumb stitches
  • 2- 2 yard pieces of scrap yarn if using provisional cast on.
