This is a shoulder-wrap knitted in the round, then the bottom lace edging is knitted separately and sewn on. The top edge of the main section is naturally shaped due to the lace pattern, and this forms the edge of the cowl when the top of the shawl is drawn onto the head. (The shawl is worn upside down, i.e. “top” and “bottom” of the project are reversed in the instructions.)
