Kangaroo knit pattern pdf – perfect as an easy handmade gift for a new mum & baby.
Beginner soft toy animal – make your own cute Australian Joey and mum.
Instant digital download – the quick project is a perfect last-minute present for birthdays or Christmas.

KEY FEATURES:
• Cuddly plush is a personal present for kids, an expectant mum, a newborn baby or any animal-lover.

• Simple enough for beginners – each piece is worked flat in rows of stocking/stockinette stitch, with easy increases and decreases. Once made up, the Joey fits snugly inside the mum’s pouch.

• The pattern uses a chunky novelty yarn, which is perfect for replicating kangaroo fur and surprisingly easy to knit with. You could customise the look by using a plain brown yarn. I used Sirdar Persia Chunky (52% wool, 42% acrylic, 6% nylon, 50g/85m), 2 balls of Brown (404), 1 ball of Beige (402) (now discontinued). A good alternative is King Cole Big Value Chunky (100% acrylic; 100g/152m), 1 ball of Spice 3282), 1 ball of Caramel (546).

• A4 digital pdf download pattern is available instantly, forever, and is easily printable. Pattern support is available if you need it – feel free to ask me questions! I’m based in the UK.

• The finished Mummy Kangaroo measures 22cm/8½in tall. The finished Baby Kangaroo measures 11cm/4¼in tall. The strong and poseable legs are easily made by stuffing them with a pipe cleaner, wire or bendy drinking straw.

• You’ll also need a pair of straight 4mm (US 6) needles, 100g of toy stuffing and oddments of dark brown or black DK yarn for the facial features.

DESIGNER INSPIRATION:
Becky Skuse says: “I’ve always been fascinated with Australia – its unusual wildlife, variety of landscapes and aboriginal culture. As a child, I loved kangaroos and other marsupials, especially the adorable way that they carry their young joeys in pouches. So I would have loved a toy kangaroo like this one where the baby can jump inside the mummy’s pouch. The pair are quite straightforward and cheap to make and the fluffy finish to the yarn is perfect for the kangaroo fur. Hop to it!”
