Using only a single 100 gram ball of fingering weight yarn, the Kathy Shawlette is worked from the neck down, with increases at both ends and along two spines dividing the shoulder shawl into three triangles or 3 sides of a square. It’s a fast and easy shawl to work, primarily made of double crochets and chain 1 spaces.

The shawl begins with a row of foundation double crochet, but if you aren’t comfortable with that technique, feel free to use the more conventional method of starting your work. If you do use the conventional approach, I recommend working through the back bump of the starting chain so that the finishing edge and starting edge look the same.
