“Kenkyo” translates from Japanese as “humble” or “modest”. This concept permeates Japanese culture and is embodied in the design of small, shapely, functional objects, such as these beautifully cabled socks. They do not shout for attention; they wait for their subtle beauty, balance and intricacy to be noticed.

This twisted-stitch rib & cable pattern, from a Japanese knitting book, can be a challenge to knit using the Japanese cable techniques, but it can also be knit using a cable needle and standard cable techniques.
