This lovely scoop neck vest with side shaping features sheep, needles and yarn, a choice of national flowers (roses, thistles, daffodils, or shamrocks) and flags of the patron saints of Scotland, England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

Special techniques involved include stranded colourwork, spit splicing, steeking, corrugated ribbing, and twisted German cast on.

A schematic is included to guide in blocking.

Yarn requirements are as follows:

Jamieson & Smith Jumperweight yarn in the following shades:

21 (dark blue); 2 balls in all sizes
FC47 ( medium blue); 1 ball for size 32’’, 2 balls for all other sizes
014 (light blue); 2 balls in all sizes
054 (dark grey); 1 ball in all sizes
027 (medium grey); 2 balls for 50’’ chest, 1 ball in all other sizes
203 (light grey); 1 ball for sizes 32’’ - 42’’, 2 balls for sizes 44’’ - 50’’
001 (white); 3 balls in all sizes
1403 (red); 1 ball in all sizes
023 (yellow); 1 ball in all sizes
118 green; 1 ball in all sizes
049 (purple); 1 ball in all sizes

If knitting the daffodils you will also require one ball of shade # 2 (orange).

Errata:

These errata only apply to the pattern as it appeared at the British Yarn website where it was titled ‘The Knit Camp Vest’

The bottom rib instructions should read:

Join in the white yarn and work 16 rounds of k3p1 corrugated ribbing (see ‘techniques’) using the white yarn for the knits and the light blue yarn for the purls.

There were also several areas of text missing from the original download from the British Yarn website, lost either during conversion to PDF or upload to their website. These are as follows:

  • Beginning of the gauge/tension info: ’Bottom rib and main body: 32 stitches and 40 rounds …’

  • Beginning of armhole instruction: ’The armhole shaping commences in row …’

  • After first emboldened armhole decrease instruction: ’Now work single decreases before and after the steeks every round 1 (2, 2, 1, 2, 2, 3, 2, 3, 4) times, then in every alternate round 2 (2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4) times as follows:’

  • Beginning of back neck instructions: ’After the 2nd rendition of row 70 (70, 70, 75, 75, 78, 78, 78, 80, 80) of the charted pattern the back neck shaping commences. In the next round work as follows:’

  • Second back neck decrease instruction begins: ’Knit in patttern as set …’

  • Beginning of neck edging instruction: ’Carefully cut up the centre of the front and back neck steeks.’

  • Sixth link in ‘techniques’ should have the title: ’Spit splicing in colourwork’

  • Seventh link in ‘techniques’ should have the title: ’Short row shaping’
