Pattern is written for one color. If you want to introduce a stripe (or use up leftover yarn), change colors any time after increasing stitch count. Consider making stripes to indicate club number.

This “spiral rib” pattern stitch has an unusual construction. There are no purls. A yarn over & knit 2 together combination creates a stretchy “rib” effect and causes the spiral. This is a traditional stitch pattern called Estonian Fishtail.
