La Mer , the emblematic French song of the ’40s by Charles Trénet inspired this colorwork pattern and so, the hat is named after it. I must admit that the Breton colorway that I used to knit the prototype influenced a lot in making up my mind about the name, too. I think this pattern is totally unisex and can be worn by adults and children equally well, which in my book is the definition of an appreciated knit gift. I used solid color yarn to knit my sample, but you can always opt for a speckled + a solid color combo or even go for a monochromatic version! Making a hat is a great way to introduce colorwork to your knitting; it is not too long a project and you are bound to have fun!
