The hat is knitted top-down in rounds and
the file contains as well the chart as written instructions

Material

• yarn (concerning the amount see below this list): the hat looks beautiful with every yarn that gives a fine stitch definition
• needles to knit in rounds (I knit the hats on 7 dpns (= double pointed needles) to get 1 pattern repeat/dpn, but of course it also works with less dpns or with circular needles)
• if wanted beads (the pattern uses 147 beads)
• the usual stuff: needle to pull in the ends, where necessary stitch markers, thread as lifeline and similar

As for the amount of yarn you need, I couldn’t say how much you’d need, because it depends on the desired head circumference, your yarn, your needles and the way you are knitting, but check the projects where you can see how much the test knitters needed for their hats

Size and gauge

the total number of stitches at the sides is 112 stitches, that means that your hat will only fit if 112 stitches in your gauge (= your yarn, your needles and the way you are knitting) results in your head circumference

in order to help you determining the gauge for your hat I compiled the gauge table which shows the number of stitches per 4 inches/10 cm for common head sizes

should your head size not be mentioned, you can use the formula below the gauge table

You should

• know how to determine the gauge for your hat with the help of the table/formula further below,
• know how to knit lace in rounds (you find a hint on how to shift stitches at the begin of a round in the file)
• be able to knit with only 7 stitches in the first round,
• know how to knit twisted stitches

Material

• Garn (wegen der Menge s. unter dieser Liste): die Mütze sieht mit jedem Garn schön aus, bei dem man das Muster gut erkennen kann
• Nadeln zum Rundstricken (ich stricke die Mützen auf 7 Nadelspielnadeln um 1 Mustersatz/Nadel zu bekommen, aber natürlich geht’s auch mit weniger Nadelspielnadeln oder mit Rundstricknadeln)
• wenn gewünscht Perlen (die Anleitung verwendet 147 Perlen)
• das übliche Drumherum: Nadel zum Vernähen der Fäden, ggf. Maschenmarkierer, Faden als lifeline u.ä.

Was die Menge an Garn für die Mütze angeht, kann ich nicht sagen, wieviel Du brauchst, denn das hängt von dem gewünschten Kopfumfang, Deinem Garn, Deinen Nadeln und Deiner Art zu stricken ab, aber Du kannst Dir die Projekte angucken, dort kannst Du sehen, wieviel die Teststrickerinnen für ihre Mützen benötigt haben

Größe und Maschenprobe

Die Gesamtanzahl der Maschen an der Seite der Mütze ist 112 Maschen, d.h., dass Deine Mütze nur dann passt, wenn 112 Maschen in Deiner Maschenprobe (= Dein Garn, Deine Nadeln und die Art in der Du strickst) Deinen Kopfumfang ergeben

Um Dir bei der Ermittlung der Maschenprobe für Deine Mütze zu helfen, habe ich die Maschenproben-Tabelle zusammengestellt, die die Anzahl der Maschen pro 10 cm/4 Inch für übliche Kopfgrößen zeigt

Sollte Deine Kopfgröße nicht dabei sein, kannst Du die Formel unter der Tabelle verwenden

Kenntnisse/Fertigkeiten

Du solltest

• die Maschenprobe für Deine Mütze anhand der Tabelle/Formel weiter unten selbst ermitteln können,
• Lace (Lochstrickmuster/Ajour) in Runden stricken können (einen Hinweis, wie man Maschen am Rundenbeginn verschiebt, findest Du in der Datei)
• mit nur 7 Maschen in der ersten Runde zu Rande kommen,
• verschränkte Maschen stricken können
