The Lady of the Wood Wimple pattern is also available in ‘Novel Knits’, a book celebrating British Literature in stitches.

In the works of J. R. R. Tolkien ‘Lady of the Wood’ is one of the titles used for Galadriel, the elven queen of Lothlórien.

The wimple is a versatile garment that can be worn as a hood or neckwarmer (see photos). It is worked in the round from the top to the bottom using circular needles, initially a 16” length circular, then transferring to a 24” circular during the collar increases.

The top edging is beaded, requiring 48 size 6/0 seed beads. The pattern includes links to a relevant tutorial showing how to thread beads onto yarn. Instructions are also given detailing how to place beads in knitting.

The pattern includes full written instructions, and charts are provided for the main lace elements. A blocking diagram is included to accompany the written finishing instructions.

Any blockable two-ply yarn should work for this design. It is also possible to modify the pattern for use with fingering weight yarns. Please see Daisey27’s project notes for details. As with all patterns, please check tension/gauge with your chosen yarn in order to determine needle size.
