Large Tunisian Storage Cube
This pattern is a Tunisian crocheted rectangular storage bin designed to fit into storage furniture with a cube dimension of 13” x 15” x 13” high. It also make a very nice stand alone basket.
I used a double strand of super bulky yarn, but this would also work up nicely with a bulkier yarn if you have it available. You may have to adjust hook size and stitch count with bulkier yarns.
This project uses both Tunisian crochet simple stitch and regular crochet in single and half double stitches. This is a beginner level project, as long as you are already familiar with all the stitches listed.
SUPPLIES:
Tunisian or double ended USQ/16mm hook
USN/10.00mm hook
2 balls of chunky size 6 yarn (or a single ball of a thicker yarn. (I used Bernat Chunky in Teal – the ball contained 431yd/394m and I used almost the entirety of both balls. – 400yds of a chunkier yarn should be enough)
NOTES: I worked with a double strand of size 6 chunky yarn on a double ended Q hook (because I couldn’t find a Tunisian hook in size Q) and a regular N hook for the SC portions.
TSS tends to curl, it is just the nature of the stitch, so to combat the curl as you work you can roll then unroll the piece in the opposite direction of the curl or roll and unroll it perpendicular to the direction you are working to keep it out of your way. The design of the box makes it so that the roll will work with the structure of the box in the end, so there is no need to take it completely out of your work.
