This pattern includes directions to make a toddler size pair of Latvian Mittens and/or Socks. There are directions for two edge treatments, the fringe in the picture (green) and a ripple edge (on the socks). The same graph and shaping techniques work for either the mittens or the socks and I have given you instructions on both. I have also included instructions to scale the pattern up to adult sizes (small, medium and large) and some guidance on how to incorporate other stranded colorwork designs than the one that I have included in the pattern. I recommend that you start with the socks or the mittens in toddler size to get the techniques down before you try to branch off into other designs. For simplicity I give directions for a three color treatment like the one you see for the socks; white, dark, and bright. After you have made a pair or two branching out into other color combinations (like those for the little mittens) is easy enough to do. These projects are an excellent way to use up small amounts of stash yarn.
