Latvian Stars is a richly colored double-layered warm scarf knit in the round on 3.25mm/US3 needles with approximately 750m/820yds of Jamieson’s of Shetland Spindrift yarn.

The stitch pattern is a variation of a traditional Latvian mitten pattern in two color stranded knitting, with accents of a third color twinkling on every seventh row.

Dimensions of sample shown:
approximately 105cm/41.5ins by 19cm/7.5ins
The scarf can be made as long or short as you want, by adding or subtracting repeats.
Gauge: approximately 26sts and 26 rows = 4ins/10cm in stranded knitting

MC: approximately 85g/357m/390yds, a mix of 293 Port Wine, 239 Purple Heather, 294 Blueberry, 596 Clover or similar colors.
CC: approximately 85g/357m/390yds 500 Scarlet and/or similar colors.
Accent colors: 39 lengths of 90cm/1yd in different bright shades including 410 Cornfield, 570 Sorbet, 136 Teviot, 470 Pumpkin, 688 Mermaid, 760 Caspian.

This pattern offers a good illustration of “color dominance” in stranded knitting:
the dark MC and red CC have an equal number of stitches in the chart but the red stitches are more prominent in the knitting because the MC is stranded above the CC
(i.e. on the WS the MC floats on any row are closer to the needle than the CC floats)

The pdf contains a chart, short written notes & instructions, and a splicing phototutorial.
