Lazy Jacks
Lines running from the top of the mast to the boom and used to control a sail as it is lowered or reduced. The lazy jacks are placed on both sides of the sail and form a sort of basket to receive the sail.

The Lazy Jack hat is a classic. A nautical themed sailors ribbed hat with a simple twisted stitch mock cable. The Aran weight wool/silk blend has a lot of drape and very little ‘bounce’ so the ribbing is worked with a needle several sizes smaller to ensure a snug fit. If substituting the yarn look for soft worsted or slinky aran weight yarns, ideally a super wash or a silk blend to really show off the textures.
