I love designing socks—mostly because I love knitting socks! So I am always on the lookout for interesting stitch patterns that would be great in socks. I found this pattern in a Japanese stitch dictionary and just knew I had to use it in a pair of socks. The shape of the motif reminded me of pointed leaves, and the Cordia sebestena plant has leaves this shape as well as beautiful coral colored flowers, hence the name. The lace is not difficult, but it does require the movement of markers to facilitate knitting the motif in the round. I placed the gusset decreases at the base of the heel to leave room to carry the motif down the instep in a wedge. This also allows the sock to fit snugly at the heel and arch. Row-by-row instructions, as well as the charts are included in the pattern.
