Like a vineyard stretching out to the horizon, this simple lace pattern winds its way down the shawl.

Les vignes (vineyards in French) may be worked with two panels for a traditional triangle shape, or three panels to allow it to drape gracefully around the neck and over the shoulders.

Both written and charted instructions for the lace are provided. Both 2- and 3-panel versions of the shawl can be worked in either of two sizes: small or large.

And like a fine vintage, this is a design you can savour for years to come.

Sizing:

2-panel:

  • Small - 97 cm/38 inches wide by 48 cm/19 inches deep at neck.

  • Large - 160 cm/63 inches wide by 80 cm/31.5 inches deep at neck.

3-panel:

  • Small - 74 cm/29 inches on 3 sides of square by 37 cm/14.5 inches deep at neck.

  • Large - 120 cm/48 inch on 3 sides of square by 60 cm/24 inches deep at neck.

See also the schematic in the attached photos for sizing and shape details.

Note regarding Oceanwind Knits custom colourway:

The large, 3 panel version in the top photo was made with three custom hand-dyed colours (LV1, LV2, LV3) of Oceanwind Knits Sock Merino (100% Superwash) yarn, which is no longer available.

For those who have the kit:

The yarn amounts provided in the kit are specifically for making the large, 3 panel version only and are used as follows:

  • Work the first 106 rows in colour LV1.
  • Work the next 44 rows in colour LV2.
  • Work the final 32 rows in colour LV3.
