I came up with this design for Mother’s day. The plan is to present the pin to my mother with a card - “For Mother’s day, a little grey hare for you” on the outside and the punchline on the inside “Sorry about all the other ones”.

Yes, I know, sidesplitting.

However, many people laugh at such jokes, myself amongst them, especially if I came up with it.

So, for Mother’s day, Father’s day, impeding milestone birthdays (30, 40, 50, etc.) and for anyone you want to needle and otherwise annoy about the little grey hare - make them a little grey hare. I bet they smile when they get it.

Some more card ideas:

Don’t be scared, it’s just a little grey hare

For your birthday,
a little grey hare

A little grey hare is a sign of wisdom

For Father’s day, here’s a little grey hare for you,
Sorry about all the others

Don’t worry,
No one will notice the little grey hare

I’m proud of my grey hare

Here’s a little grey hare for you,
You’ve earned it!

Don’t look now,
but I see a grey hare.

Don’t dye…
It’s just a little grey hare

I am always looking for more groaners to add to these suggestions, I’ll be sure to credit you if you send me a new one.

The little grey hare can be made from any weight yarn. The larger hares are made of Lion Brand homespun. The tiny hare is made from Light Brown Hare’s sample from the March Phat Fiber Sample box. The colorway is “Ore” of her Arctic Hare sock yarn line. You can contact her at lightbrownhair.etsy.com

The pictures show the hares as pins, but these can be fitted with magnets (who does not need another magnet?), tie tacks, headbands, barrettes or anything you can sew or glue it to. As shown, it is self filled with yarn tails, it can also be filled it with something like plastic pellet for a paperweight. Or, if using for a cat, catnip filled.
