This cheerful hat is knit in the round on a circular needle, then on double-pointed needles for the decreases at the top. Simple color accents create little ‘hearts’ in the stripes! Choose from three sizes, to fit newborns through 18 months. We love it in holiday hues and soft Malabrigo merino, but it’s equally adorable in a range of colors, and in cotton for warmer weather.

Skills Needed:
Long tail cast on (CO), knitting (K) and purling (P) in the round, knitting with two colors in a row, decreasing, using double-pointed needles (dpns)

Four sizes/finished hat measurements:
• Newborn-3 months/15”, 6-9 m/16”, 12-18 m/18”).

Yarn:
Equal amounts of the three colors are required, so divide total yardage/meters given by three: main color (MC), contrast color 1 (CC1) and contrast color 2 (CC2). 82 yds/75 m of soft worsted weight (88 yds/80 m, 100 yds/91.5 m)

Needles:
• US size 8/5 mm double pointed needles (dpns) for sizes NB through 6-9 m. For size 12-18 m, you’ll need the dpns as well, but you can use a 16” circular (in the same size) for the body of the hat, if you like, till you begin to decrease at top.
