I was looking for something quick and cozy to use up some scrap yarn. This hat knits up in just a few hours and is a great way to use up some half balls of yarn.
You will need less than 1 ball each of two or three or more colors.
I have included ways to adjust the size of the hat to accommodate larger or smaller.

US 5 and 7 double pointed needles
Tapestry needle

Gauge is 5 stitches and 8 rows per square inch of pattern on larger needles. Fits head size 19”-20”.
