The Music
Once again the beautifully lilting tunes of Portuguese composer BrunuhVille spring to life and share their story in this richly cabled shawl. Intricate melodies and harmonies translate into intertwining cables in the Celtic Love Song shawl.

Pattern Notes
Sample worked in Lion Brand Fishermen’s Wool in Natural.

This rectangular shawl is knit flat using a circular needle. It begins with an I-Cord Cast On. The first row is a Wrong Side setup row where stitches are increased to accommodate the horizontal pull of the cable stitches that follow. The side edges are worked in a ribbed cable that creates a beautiful wreathed edge. The main shawl ends with an I-Cord Bind Off.

The End Panels (optional) are knit on after the main shawl is complete; they are worked at right angles to the shawl. Stitches are picked up along the I-Cord shawl ends and additional stitches are cast on using an I-Cord Cast On. The End Panels have a mock I-Cord edge and finish with an I-Cord Bind Off. A few stitches need to be sewn to attach the final bind off stitches to the shawl.

Two full sets of directions are provided, one for those who like to work from charts and one for those who prefer written directions. Chart Users may print only pages 1 – 11 and pages 22 – 23 to have a complete pattern; Written Direction Users may print only pages 1 – 3 and pages 12 – 23 to have a complete pattern.

Additional detailed pictures of the shawl can be found on the last page of the pattern (also see pattern photos at left).

The Lost Kingdom: Riversong shawl is a fingering-weight yarn variation of this design ~ the two shawls share the central cables but the edge cable panels and end panels differ.
