This pattern involves some shaping. I’ve included a link to a photo tutorial for the shaping technique used.

Abbreviations: ch = chain, chs = chains, ea = each, dc = double crochet, sc = single crochet, sc dec = single crochet decrease, sp = space, st = stitch, sts = stitches

Materials: about 1 1/2 oz. any worsted weight yarn (acrylic can be used but consider cotton if for summer use), US size H hook, about a 1 inch small square of velcro (2 pieces) for closure

Pattern Note: You will turn at the end of each row.
Main Piece: (started at top of bib. Shells will be upside down on the finished piece).
Starting Chain: ch 28.
Row 1: working in one loop of each starting chain, sc in second ch from hook, sc in ea ch across. (making 27 sc in the row)
Row 2: ch 1 (to turn), sc in the first sc, sc in next sc, * skip next 2 sc, 5 dc all in next sc, skip next 2 sc, sc in next sc , repeat the directions between * and 3 more times, then sc in last sc.
Row 3: ch 3 (counts as first dc), 3 dc all in next sc, * skip next 2 dc, sc in next dc, skip next 2 dc, 5 dc all in next sc , repeat the directions between * and 2 more times, then skip next 2 dc, sc in next dc, skip next 2 dc, 3 dc in next sc, dc in last sc.
Row 4: ch 1 (to turn), sc in the first dc, sc in next dc, * skip next 2 dc, 5 dc all in next sc, skip next 2 dc, sc in next dc , repeat the directions between * and 3 more times, then sc in ch-3 at the end of the row.

Longer Bib Option: If you want the bib to be longer, repeat rows 3 and 4 additional times, then proceed with the row 9 directions and the shaping rows (these final rows add about 3 inches to the length).

Bib Strap Right-hand Side: Turn the Main Piece so that the starting chain edge is facing up, ready to be worked in next. You will work in the remaining loops of the starting chain.
Attach the yarn in the first starting chain remaining loop on the right-hand side of the piece.
Row 1: ch 1, sc in first ch, sc in ea of next 7 chs. You will now turn and leave the rest of the row unworked for now.
Row 2: ch 1 (to turn), sc in first sc, sc in ea of next 7 sc. (8 sc in row)
Row 3: ch 1 (to turn), 2 sc in first sc, sc in ea of next 5 sc, sc dec over last 2 sc. (8 sc in row)
Rows 4 - 11: ch 1 (to turn), sc in first sc, sc in ea of next 7 sc.
Row 12: ch 1 (to turn), 2 sc in first sc, sc in ea of next 5 sc, sc dec over last 2 sc.

Second Bib Strap: Turn the Main Piece so that the unworked side of the top row is on the right-hand side. Attach yarn in the first starting chain remaining loop on this side of the piece.
Second Bib Strap Rows 1 - 21: Repeat Rows 1 - 21 of the Bib Strap Right-hand Side instructions.

Sew one piece of the velcro to the right side of one strap, near the top of the strap and the other piece of velcro to the wrong side of the other strap, positioned so that it will line up with the velcro on the other strap.
