Luck o' the Irish Cowl
This pattern is available for free until March 31st, 2015 in celebration of St. Patty’s Day! Please enjoy!
I don’t know what inspired me to create this cowl. Perhaps my Irish half was telling me to prepare for the impending St. Patrick’s Day holiday. Or maybe it was just an excuse to try out the tonal self-striping Noro Karuta yarn--a soft silk, cotton, and wool blend that is perfect for spring (Noro Taiyo is another great yarn for this!) Quite possibly it was merely my love of the color green, my recent obsession with chevron stripes and the fact that they would be a perfect compliment to the yarn. Maybe it was all of the above. In any case, I hope you enjoy this recipe for my “Luck o’ the Irish” chevron cowl knit in the round with a little bit of shaping, and may your finished knit bring you tons of luck!
Please Note: The Noro Karuta originally used for this cowl has been discontinued, so the pattern has been updated to work with any worsted weight yarn although it would still work with similar results with an Aran weight yarn. The top two photos show a more recent version knit in Madelinetosh Vintage.
