A pretty, cosy, beret for spring. Maybe even for Mother’s Day!

This pattern is available on its own and is also included as a sample pattern in The Design your own Dream Hat ebook/Knotions Hatstar. It is also available The Hat family ebook, a collection of hats for the whole family.

Sizes
Choose a size approx 5 cm (2 in) less than your actual head size for a snug fit. Sizes given are finished hat brim circumference.

18 months-4years: 40cm/15¾in
4 years- adult small: 44cm/17¼in
Medium adult: 48cm/19in
Large adult: 50cm/20¼in

Yarn choices
You will need DK/light worsted yarns. I used Jamieson’s pure wool DK, a lovely shetland yarn. Wool or natural fibres are recommended to allow the hat to be wet-blocked into shape (instructions and links to tutorials included).

Construction and skills
Hat is made bottom up in the round.
skills include:
Circular knitting (pattern assumes the use of a circular needle with magic loop for crown decreases, but is easily adapted for your preferred circular methods)
Basic lace knitting skills (yarn overs/ paired decreases etc)
This hat needs blocking to achieve the shape shown and open the lace.

Pattern contains
Both written and charted instructions. Links to tutorials for the cast on and blocking methods.Full metric and imperial measurements.
